Did you feel it? Earthquake strikes Tuesday near the Salton Sea

A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck about 2.5 miles northeast of North Shore, a community near the Salton Sea at 4:56 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

USGS said the earthquake had depth of about half a mile, meaning it originated roughly that far below the Earth’s surface, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Using the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” tool, the agency received one online indicating the shaking was not felt — data that is used to estimate community intensity based on public experience.
