Desert Art Center announces artist of the year finals

The Desert Art Center’s inaugural Artist of the Year event, taking place April 3, is the culmination of what has proven to be a popular, multi-round juried competition.

Nine artists have advanced to the final round. They are Albert Angelo, Jean Bradley, Jerry Harty, Vandela Jasmine, Andrew Marr, Scott Jay Marr, Colleen O’Neill, Jessica Schiffman and Jen Shakti.

Audiences have responded enthusiastically to the preliminary rounds, enjoying the opportunity to watch artists interpret a shared subject in dramatically different ways.

At 2 p.m. on April 3, the finalists will begin to create original works simultaneously in an events tent on the lawn behind the Desert Art Center at 550 North Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. A panel of independent, third-party judges will evaluate the work as it unfolds. The event concludes during an evening public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. when Artist of the Year will be announced. Admission is free.
