Chargers offensive tackle Joe Alt loves what he’s seen so far from rookie edge rusher Akheem Mesidor.
After Wednesday’s practice at the University of San Diego, Alt explained what sets Mesidor apart.
“I think it’s work ethic,” Alt said.
“There hasn’t been a day yet where I’m like, ‘He took that play off or he didn’t go hard on that play.’ Every single play, he is trying to better himself and be the best person, the best player you can be. And you can see that and it tests everybody.“
Mesidor has made a name for himself so far through the first week of training camp. Alt isn’t the only member of the Chargers who has praised Mesidor; general manager Joe Hortiz has, too.
Hortiz told ESPN’s Dan Graziano that Mesidor looked “awesome” and “polished.”
The Chargers appear to have hit a home run with their first-round pick. Los Angeles selected Mesidor with the 22nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The 25-year-old enters the season as the likely third edge rusher on the depth chart with veteran Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu ahead of him. However, if training camp is any indication, the Chargers may have no other choice but to play Mesidor no matter what.
Mesidor will look to make his mark right out of the gate, while Alt aims to take the next step and establish himself as an All-Pro-caliber player in 2026.
These two Chargers first-round picks will look to do their part to lead Los Angeles to new heights.
