San Bernardino Co. detective shot, suspect killed near Palmdale

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s detective was shot and a suspect was killed as deputies served a search warrant service near Palmdale on Wednesday, authorities said.

The shooting took place about 3:10 p.m. Aug. 5 at Avenue R-2 and 130th Street in an unincorporated area on the eastern end of Los Angeles County, law enforcement officials said.

“The detective was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” San Bernardino Conuty Sheriff’s Department officials said in a written statement.

The wounded deputy was hospitalized in “stable” condition,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was spearheading the investigation.

A suspect died at the scene.

“San Bernardino Sheriff’s Detectives were conducting a search warrant,” the agency said in a written statement. “During the course of their investigation, a deputy-involved shooting occurred, and a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s detective was struck by gunfire.”

No further details were available as the investigation remained in its early stages.
