Chargers Wire has ranked the seven toughest opponents for the upcoming season, starting with the toughest.

Seahawks

The reigning Super Bowl champions should prove to be the toughest team the Bolts will face. The Chargers will travel to Lumen Field to face quarterback Sam Darnold and company. While the Seattle offense lost Kenneth Walker III to the Chiefs, the unit is still explosive with the likes of wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp.

Rams

The NFC West is no joke, as the other LA team resides in the division. Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP performance with the Rams, boasting one of the best offenses in the league. The Rams made headlines during the NFL draft for their selection of Ty Simpson at No. 13 overall. But make no mistake, Sean McVay’s squad is still elite as ever.

Ravens

The Chargers lost defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to a head coaching job in Baltimore. The Ravens should be extremely tough to face, given that the offense is led by two-time MVP Lamar Jackson. Minter should also elevate Baltimore’s defense, making it difficult for Justin Herbert and company to score.

Broncos

Denver notoriously puts up a good fight against the Chargers and the Broncos were one of the best teams in the AFC last season. Their elite defense, led by Patrick Surtain II, combined with head coach Sean Payton, makes the Broncos a competitive contender in 2026.

Bills

Josh Allen and Herbert should square off in quite the quarterback duel when the Chargers and Bills face each other. Additionally, Buffalo now has an offensive-minded coach in Joe Brady, which should make their unit even better. The team also added wide receiver DJ Moore.

49ers

San Francisco had an injury-riddled 2025 season with two defensive stars sidelined in Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. Even so, the Niners reached the NFC Divisional Round. The Chargers will face a strong offensive core in Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans and George Kittle.

Chiefs

There’s some uncertainty surrounding Patrick Mahomes and his health, which is why Kansas City isn’t higher on the list. But you can bet the Chiefs won’t go down easy.
