Thanksgiving is a huge day for the NFL. The league always makes sure to feature its established rivalries. Over the last few years, Thanksgiving games have been a disappointment. There have been more blowouts than close games. This year, the NFL is hoping for a different outcome, and the hope is that a Chicago Bears versus Detroit Lions matchup can deliver one of the best NFL Thanksgiving days in recent memory.
Caleb Williams so far is 0-4 versus the Lions, and the last time he faced the Lions on Thanksgiving, it resulted in his first head coach getting fired in embarrassing fashion. The hope was that Ben Johnson would bridge the gap between the Bears and the Lions. Yet that was not the result in year 1.
Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams still won the NFC North, even after going 0-2 against the Lions. This season, however, the Lions are coming into a season at full strength and trying to get back to dominant fashion.
Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson were at their worst together last season, and things will only get better for the Bears’ offense. The Bears may not win 7-8 games coming back from behind, but this still will be a team full of magic. Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams will look to display some magic versus their foe, the Lions.
Thanksgiving Day would be a great day for that. Luck is already on their side as the Lions have a history of coming up short on Thanksgiving. If it weren’t for the Matt Eberflus Bears, that tradition would still remain. Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson can bring back that tradition and take back control of this rivalry this season.
