When Aaron Donald called it a career after the 2023 season, it left a gaping hole on the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive line. Despite their best efforts to fill that void, the Rams know it’s impossible to replace a future Hall of Famer.
That’s why they held out hope that he would change his mind and unretire, returning to help them win another Super Bowl.
It was obviously to no avail because Donald is happily retired and has no interest in coming back, but that didn’t stop the Rams from talking to him about that possibility for two years.
Donald revealed on the “Not Just Football” podcast that the Rams talked to him about coming back for “the first two years.” But he says Sean McVay knew where he was at, and that the two of them talked.
“I’m going to say the first two years, they would still be talking that talk about it,” Donald said. “But it kind of quieted down because he kind of know where I’m at. That’s my guy. We had, we talked. So he kind of knows where I’m at with it.”
Donald has dipped his toes into the business side of life, transitioning into his next career after football. He even wants to try his hand at acting, having already been on “Hawaii Five-O” before.
There’s no chance he’s going to come out of retirement now that he’s more than two years removed from that decision, enjoying the fact that he doesn’t have to go through training camp and OTAs and the grind of a season.
