Brush fire ignites in Apple Valley

Firefighters responded to a brush fire that ignited and quickly began spreading in Apple Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze, dubbed the Standing Rock Fire, was first reported about 2:55 p.m. May 2 at Standing Rock Avenue and Moccasin Road, Apple Valley Fire Protection District logs show.

It was initially sized up at 5 acres. But within 30 minutes, the flames had consumed an estimated 15 acres of vegetation, according to Watch Duty.

The flames were fed by fuels described as light and flashy, moving at a moderate rate of spread.

No immediate threats to structures were reported.

Firefighters declared the forward progress of the fire stopped just before 4 p.m.
