A 17-year-old boy died following a head-on crash between his pickup truck and a big rig along Highway 395 in Adelanto over the weekend, authorities said.
Michael Zavala of Tehachapi, died at a hospital Saturday, March 21, from injuries he suffered in the the wreck the previous night, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.

The collision was reported just before 10:50 p.m. Friday, March 20, along Highway 395 near Chamberlaine Way.
Zavala was driving a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, which “veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a semi-truck,” San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said.
He was rushed by helicopter to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The driver of the big rig was also hospitalized, while the occupants of a third vehicle that became involved in the crash were unhurt, according to Orejel.
