All-Northern Section softball teams announced. Who was named MVP and Coach of the Year?

Foothill pitcher Elisea Weigand and head coach Tayler Walker headline the All-Northern Section Softball Team after the Cougars historic run to a first Division II title. 

The University of Maryland-bound Weigand is the Northern Section MVP and Walker, the first-year head coach, is this year’s Coach of the Year.

Fellow Cougars joining Weigand are second team selections Taylor Bates at catcher and outfielder Rylee Vakulic.  

Foothill went 26-6-1 while winning the D-II title and earning a berth in the Northern California regional playoffs.

All-Northern Section teams are selected by area media members from the Enterprise-Record, Red Bluff Daily News, Redding Record Searchlight, Marysville Appeal-Democrat and MaxPreps. 

Other Shasta County players earning first-team honors are last year’s section MVP Leigha Wood of U-Prep as well as Anna Pena of Shasta and Aubree Wertz of West Valley.  

West Valley first baseman Maddie Pemberton and Burney’s Mia Perez were named to the second team.

First Team

Second Team 

MVP – Elisea Weigand, Foothill 

Coach of the Year – Tayler Walker, Foothill
