In the NBA, it can oftentimes be difficult for older players to relate to rookies. Take Al Horford and Yaxel Lendeborg, for example. Horford will be entering his 20th NBA season, one of only 13 players to ever play for two decades, while Lendeborg will be just beginning his NBA career.
Although the two don’t seem to have many similarities on the surface, the duo shares a pretty unique connection. According to Horford, both of their fathers (Tito Horford and Okary Lendeborg) played together for the Dominican Republic in the early 90s. Additionally, Horford and Lendeborg each have NCAA titles to their names: Lendeborg with Michigan this past season and Horford, who won back-to-back titles with Florida in 2006 and 2007.
Speaking about Lendeborg, like many in the Warriors organization, Horford has high hopes. “He’s already NBA ready. He’s a guy that has a big body that can score the ball, can get downhill, can put pressure on defenses,” said the veteran.
Known as a steady locker room presence, Horford will be a great veteran for Lendeborg to learn from throughout his rookie season.
