A 64-year-old man from Texas died in a single-car crash that occurred along Interstate 10 near Box Canyon Road on Tuesday, March 3.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol responded just before 7:30 a.m. to a crash that involved a Ram pick-up truck hauling a trailer along the interstate, west of Box Canyon Road.
A preliminary investigation found the truck was travelling west along the interstate when it veered to the right, collided into a metal guard rail then drove off the roadway.
The truck then overturned into the open desert and landed on its roof. Its driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle and later extricated, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to CHP.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation as of later Tuesday. The 64-year-old man’s identity had not yet been released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, but the highway patrol said he was from Burleson, Texas.
