The San Francisco 49ers are adding depth at defensive end and signing former Washington Commanders fifth-round pick KJ Henry according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.
Henry was one of a quartet of defensive players to try out for the 49ers on Tuesday. Per the NFL’s transaction wire, the 49ers tried out linebackers Quinton Bell and Victor Dimukeje, and defensive ends Henry and Titus Leo.
The Commanders selected Henry with the No. 139 overall pick in the 2023 draft. He spent only one season in Washington and posted 1.5 sacks and four tackles for loss in 10 games as a rookie. The following year he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals and notched 1.0 sacks in four games. Last year he landed with the Cleveland Browns where he played five special teams snaps in his lone appearance.
With DE Nick Bosa slowly working his way into action and DE Mykel Williams on the PUP list it’s not a surprise the 49ers are adding more help for training camp at the position. Henry has a steep climb to a roster spot, but he should get plenty of snaps in camp to try and carve out some kind of role either on the roster or practice squad.
