49ers salary cap situation in good place entering 2026

The San Francisco 49ers are sitting in a good place against the new salary cap implemented by the NFL for the 2026 season.

In 2026 teams will have to work under a $301.2 million cap according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. That will leave the 49ers with $38,905,176 in cap space. That is the 11th-most space in the league per Over the Cap. They have a projected $34,507,959 in effect space according to OTC. Effective cap space is the amount the 49ers would have after they add their projected draft class.

The bad news for the 49ers is their division rivals are all in similarly advantageous cap positions. The Seattle Seahawks have north of $59 million in space. The Los Angeles Rams are also ahead of the 49ers at $42,041,855,while the Arizona Cardinals sit just behind them at $36,882,426.

Just because they’re well under the cap doesn’t mean the 49ers won’t make a handful of salary cap-related roster moves as they try and maximize their space to make additions. It’s unlikely this offseason is like last offseason where the team tries to shed a ton of salary. There’s a real chance they intend to utilize their cap space this season to try and build out a team better equipped to contend for a Super Bowl in 2026.
