The San Francisco 49ers are in the middle of their offseason program and were expected to hold their mandatory minicamp at the team’s SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, next week.
However, head coach Kyle Shanahan has called an audible. According to NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco, Shanahan is canceling the minicamp “as a reward for 100-percent attendance this week and the work put in during the 49ers’ offseason program.”
San Francisco has had everybody back at their organized team activities this week, other than wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who won’t be on the team by the time the regular season starts.
If Shanahan feels that his team has put in the work and is comfortable with how they look thus far, this makes sense. That’s good news for some of the 49ers’ younger players, including their rookies, if they’re ahead of schedule in their adjustment to the NFL.
