On Monday night, the USC baseball team defeated Texas A&M 7-1 in the decisive game of the College Station Regional. With the victory, the Trojans advanced to the super regionals for the first time since 2005.
Of course, this is not the first time recently that the Trojans have defeated the Aggies in a notable postseason contest. Less than 18 months prior, the USC football team took down Texas A&M in the 2024 Las Vegas Bowl. Jayden Maiava threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Ford with eight seconds remaining to give the Trojans a 35-31 victory.
Obviously, there are quite a few differences between the two battles between the two schools. For one, the football matchup was played at a neutral site in Las Vegas, while the baseball teams faced off in College Station. On the gridiron, the Trojans needed a score in the final seconds to take down the Aggies, while on the diamond, they defeated them by a combined score of 21-4 over two games.
In addition, the baseball showdown was a battle of two top 25 teams playing for a spot in a super regional. On the other hand, USC and Texas A&M both had disappointing 2024 football seasons, with the Trojans finishing the year 7-6 and the Aggies going 8-5.
Still, USC has now defeated A&M twice in the postseason in two different sports in less than two years. It would not be surprising if at this point, Aggies fans want nothing to do with facing the Trojans again anytime soon.
