Al Horford declined his player option to ink a new two-year deal with the franchise Thursday, first announced by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The deal is worth $14 million over two seasons and is expected to be worth $6.8 million in year one and $7.2 million in year two. The deal comes not long after Horford was seen spending time preparing at the Warriors training facility.
If Horford suits up for Golden State next season, he’ll become only the 13th player in NBA history to reach 20 seasons played. Following the deal, Horford spoke about his decision to remain with the team, saying, “I want to see it through. That (injury) kind of put a damper on things. Jimmy is a very special player, and he was doing so much for us. I feel like things were starting to turn.”
Last season for Golden State, Horford played in just 45 games, averaging 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks in 21.5 minutes per game.
