Why Zeeland East's Lizzie Risdon followed family footsteps to NCAA Division I program

Visiting Ohio University with her parents over the years, Lizzie Risdon found the campus familiar.

The Zeeland East junior will join them as Bobcats. Risdon committed to play volleyball at Ohio University, an NCAA Division I program in the Mid-American Conference.

“I chose Ohio because of many factors. Many people in my family have gone to Ohio, including both of my parents, so Ohio has always been a name in my head and I’ve been to campus multiple times,” Risdon said. “I absolutely love the coaches and atmosphere of Ohio volleyball and the campus being so beautiful and welcoming just adds so much.

“It means the world to me that I have committed to my dream school.”

Risdon was all-conference, all-district and all-region as a sophomore for the Chix at outside hitter. She totaled 365 kills, 231 digs and 48 aces.

And she still has two more high school seasons to prepare for the college ranks.

“I don’t know what I am going to study yet, but in a volleyball aspect I hope to make lifelong relationships with people and grow as a person and player,” she said. “I hope to obviously improve my skills, but also improve myself and how I can make and impact on younger players.”
