The action for the 2024-25 Michigan High School Athletic Association sports calendar has come to a close.
And it was another strong year for teams across Greater Lansing. The area had a few state championships and other squads that made deep state tournament runs.
Now is your chance to weigh in on the best of the best.
Our summer poll series kicks off this week with readers having a chance to decide which area girls team was the best during the 2024-25 school year. Voting is open through Friday to determine a winner.
The candidates are as follows:
DeWitt basketball
The Panthers were one of the state’s top teams and made a run to the Division 1 quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Belleville. DeWitt had a 24-game winning streak during a strong season it finished 25-2.
Fowler basketball
The Eagles won their third state championship in five seasons, capturing the Division 4 title in March at Breslin Center.
Fowler track and field
The Eagles captured their second straight Division 4 state title and won their fifth state championship since 2016 on May 31.
Fowlerville wrestling
In the first season where the MHSAA crowned a girls team champion, the Gladiators finished third with 57 points.
Haslett-Williamston lacrosse
With a new coach, Haslett-Williamston added to its recent success by making a third straight Division 2 state semifinal appearance.
Holt bowling
The Rams had their third top-two finish at the Division 1 team state finals in three seasons and finished as the state runner-up.
Lansing Catholic cross country
The Cougars claimed their second state title in program history and first since 2017 by finishing as the Division 3 champion in the fall.
Olivet track and field
Two years removed from a state runner-up finish, Olivet captured its first state title by finishing on top in Division 3 on May 31.
Pewamo-Westphalia basketball
The Pirates were the lone girls basketball team in Greater Lansing to finish the regular season unbeaten and the only team to beat Division 4 state champion Fowler this winter. The Pirates reached the regional final.
Pewamo-Westphalia competitive cheer
The Pirates continued to be one of the state’s top competitive cheer teams and finished as the Division 4 state runner-up for the fourth time in six seasons this winter.
