Coffee and journalists go together like long hours and short deadlines. But a coffee shop serving as a satellite office for local TV news? That’s a whole new brew.
WDIV-TV (Local 4) announced June 23 that it will open a coffee shop in downtown Plymouth in partnership with Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co.
Fourgrounds, as it will be called, is set to launch in September at the corner of Ann Arbor Trail and Harvey Street in the Detroit suburb.
The new venture is being described by WDIV as a place “where community, connection and trusted journalism come together,” and it will feature a full menu of coffee, cold brews and handmade drinks.
In addition, Fourgrounds will be tied to Local 4 News in ways that go beyond the number in its name.
According to WDIV, it will host community gatherings including “Coffee with the Newsroom” events featuring Local 4 News anchors and reporters. It also will be the new site of the live broadcast of “Live in the D,” the station’s lifestyle show hosted by Tati Amare and Kim DeGiulio that airs weekdays at 11 a.m.
“With this new space serving as a satellite office to WDIV’s downtown Detroit location, there will be a sharp focus on telling the stories that matter most to residents of Plymouth and western Wayne County,” the station’s news release stated.
WDIV vice president and general manager Bob Ellis said in the release: “We want to be a local news brand that builds community. By creating a space like this where everyone is welcome, we will be more local than ever before, and we believe that means something special.”
