The 2024-25 high school sports season is officially over in Otsego County.
With Gaylord softball and Gaylord St. Mary baseball ending their seasons on Saturday, June 7, the schedule around Gaylord, St. Mary and Johannesburg-Lewiston is clear until the fall. Still, Gaylord-area baseball, softball and golfers performed well on the last weekend of the season.
Here is the final chance of the year to vote for the Gaylord Herald Times athlete of the week:
Aubrey Jones, Gaylord softball: struck out nine batters in a shutout victory over Muskegon Oakridge in the regional semifinals, also tallied one of three Gaylord hits and scored the only run in a 1-0 victory
Eli Switalski, Gaylord St. Mary baseball: went 2 for 3 with an RBI double during GSM’s 7-4 win over East Jordan, winning a Division 4 regional championship.
Sam Kuznicki, Gaylord St. Mary baseball: finished a breakout season on the mound with a win over the Ski Valley Champions East Jordan, pitching all seven innings while giving up three earned runs.
George Mertz, Gaylord St. Mary golf: finished 19th overall at the Division 4 golf state finals on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7, shooting an 80 on day one and an 83 on day two for a combined score of 163 strokes.
Marshall Krajniak, Gaylord golf: the lone state qualifier from GHS, Krajniak shot a 164 two-day score at the Division 2 state finals in Battle Creek, finishing 62nd overall.
Voting concludes early Friday morning every week.
