Mid-Michigan is busy this week in the best way. From rock to electronic to everything in between, staying in just doesn’t make much sense.
Weekly electronic music series: Unity – In Music at Mac’s
Lansing has a strong electronic music scene, and it’s not just a one-off moment. It’s something that’s been building, week by week, set by set, with a growing network of DJs and producers who are putting in the time and crafting their sound.
Some lean deeper into techno, others stretch into house, experimental or something in between. But they all share the same core: a space for local artists to play, test things out and connect with people. It’s a scene that’s organizing itself, growing outward and building something that’s exciting.
One of the regular DJ events in town is Unity – In Music. It’s a weekly electronic music series held Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mac’s Bar.
“Our mission is to build community through art and music,” organizers Juan Trevino and Kayla Mach said. “We bring this to life by curating diverse, inclusive DJ lineups alongside local artists and vendors.
“We aim to expand our community reach through a monthly ‘Give Back,’ where we collaborate with local nonprofit organizations to collect much-needed donations. We’re always exploring new ways to support nonprofits and meaningful causes in our community.”
Also, on Aug. 30, they’ll present a free community music festival at the Brenke Fish Ladder and other Old Town businesses.

See It Now: Starfarm at Grewal Hall
Starfarm, who hits Grewal Hall on Friday, May 1, is the kind of ’80s cover band that brings the fun with big hooks, bright synths and songs you already know by heart. Head to a Starfarm show, and you can let the night take care of itself. You hear the first chorus, and you’re already halfway to the dance floor.
They keep the night upbeat and nostalgic. By the time they’re rolling, the room’s moving, people are singing along and suddenly you’re in a better mood than when you walked in the door.
