Two Michigan residents have notched $1 million lottery wins in the last week, state officials said.
In one case, a St. Clair County woman’s detour around road construction led her to a $1 million lottery win, state officials announced Monday.
The 70-year-old, who chose to remain anonymous, bought a $1 million winning scratch-off ticket from Speedy Q Markets at 2020 Water Street in Port Huron.
She typically walks to a nearby store daily to buy a King Cashword ticket, but heat and construction rerouted her to an unfamiliar store where she bought the winning scratch-off ticket, according to a release from Michigan Lottery.
“Later that night, I scratched the ticket and couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I saw the $1 million prize,” the winner said in the release. “Winning is amazing and life changing.”
She opted for a lump sum payment of about $693,000 and plans to buy a new house and car.
‘It feels like I can breathe again’
Another $1 million winner emerged from Calhoun County last week.
The 46-year-old man, who also remained anonymous, bought a Millionaire Maker ticket at Lakeview Liquor at 2497 Capital Ave. SW in Battle Creek and set it aside to scratch after work.
“When I saw it was a $1 million winner, I freaked out,” he said in the release. “It feels like I can breathe again.”
He also took a lump sum of about $693,000 and plans to buy a car and save the rest.
Players have won more than $47 million playing King Cashword since it launched in June 2025. Each $20 ticket offers chances to win up to $1 million. More than $24 million in prizes remain, officials said.
Millionaire Maker launched in September, with each $50 ticket offering prizes ranging from $75 to $6 million. Players have won more than $110 million, with more than $201 million in prizes remaining, according to the Michigan Lottery.
Last year, lottery players won more than $1.7 billion playing instant games.
