Howell Township Supervisor Mike Coddington has submitted his letter of resignation, becoming the third local official to step down since December.
Coddington submitted the letter Jan. 19. It became official Jan. 31.
Although he didn’t provide a reason for his departure, Coddington wrote he would assist with a smooth transition.
“It has been an honor to serve the residents of Howell Township,” he wrote. “I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the governance and progress of our community.”
Coddington was named supervisor in 2009 after the resignation of Maureen Heikkinen. He was appointed to fill an open trustee position in 2003, securing re-election in 2004 and 2008.
The Howell Township Board of Trustees is expected to accept his resignation during a meeting Feb. 9.
Coddington follows Planning Commissioner Mike Newstead, who resigned in December, and Trustee Shane Fagan, who resigned Jan. 12. The resignations come during an especially busy season for Howell Township, which has grappled with an enormous data center proposal and extreme public backlash.
