Storms will pop up over Memorial Day weekend. When to expect rain

Michigan residents looking ahead to the Memorial Day weekend are in for a variety of weather, including possible storms, but should be able to enjoy warm, sunny weather much of the time.

From Friday, May 22, through Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, temperatures in the southern Lower Peninsula are forecast to be in the upper 60s and 70s. In the northern L.P. and the Upper Peninsula, highs will be cooler, ranging from the 50s to 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

Early morning frost is possible this holiday weekend to the north, as overnight temperatures are forecast to dip as low as 44 degrees in the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula. A freeze warning or frost advisory may be issued on Friday, May 22, according to the Marquette National Weather Service.

“Rain-free weather will continue through the remainder of the week with the potential for patchy frost across parts of northern Michigan again tonight (May 21). Rain chances look move back in Saturday morning and end Saturday evening (May 23),” the Gaylord NWS said on social media on May 21.

Rain and thunderstorms are possible throughout the weekend across the Lower Peninsula.

“Dry and cool through Friday (May 22),” the Detroit NWS said on social media on May 21. “Good soaking rain Friday night into Saturday morning (May 23). A little milder this weekend, with a chance of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and Sunday (May 24).”

On Memorial Day, May 25, Michigan is forecast to be dry, with partly sunny skies for those attending a parade or ceremony, however, you may want a jacket, rain coat or umbrella in case of scattered rain showers.
