Sheriff's office investigating plane crash at Toledo Suburban Airport

WHITEFORD TWP., MI — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a plane crashed at the Toledo Suburban Airport, 4383 Section Road, at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, July 8.

A 68-year-old Sylvania, Ohio man operating a 2008 Cessna COLC41-550FG plane when he experienced mechanical issues while landing, the sheriff’s office said.

The aircraft drove off the runway into a field, crashing into a large tree. The pilot was the only one in the plane at the time and reported no injuries before being released from the scene.

Members of the Whiteford Township Fire Department assisted at the scene, and the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were notified.

The crash is under investigation by Deputy Paul Senio. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call 734-240-7553.
