Restaurant closed after partial roof collapse at Bay Mills Resort & Casino

Sacy’s restaurant in Brimley’s Bay Mills Resort and Casino remains closed following a partial roof collapse at the resort on Tuesday, Jan. 6. No one was injured.

Law enforcement, emergency medical services and firefighters responded to the scene, according to a Jan. 6 post on the resort’s Facebook page.

“Preliminary observations indicate the collapse may be related to broken roof trusses. The situation remains under assessment. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” Bay Mills Resort and Casino posted.

The Sault News’ phone calls to the resort and the Bay Mills Township Fire and Rescue were not immediately returned.

Bay Mills Resort and Casino posted at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 that Sacy’s and the hallway leading to the restaurant will be closed until further notice. The Comedy Club scheduled for Jan. 9 is canceled. Comedy Club will resume Jan. 16.

The casino’s gaming floor was evacuated as a precautionary measure, but it has since reopened.

“We are happy to share that the main casino floor is open. Guests traveling to and from the hotel and main casino floor are asked to use the walkway for access,” stated the Facebook post. “We will provide more information on when (Sacy’s) will be open again. Thank you for your patience as we shut down operations for the safety of our employees and guests. We are working hard to minimize any impact on our guest experience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to provide the best service possible. Thank you for your continued support.”

While Sacy’s is closed, Back Bay Grill and Games at the resort and casino will be serving a breakfast buffet from 8-11 a.m.

Bay Mills Resort and Casino, a waterfront resort about 45 minutes north of the Mackinac Bridge, is expecting to complete a nearly five-year expansion at the end of January.

The project will add more than 130 new hotel rooms and an array of amenities to the property, including a spa, deli, indoor pool and upgraded gardens.
