Read the reports: June Branch County restaurant inspections

Routine food service inspections are vital to protecting a community’s overall health, and the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Health Agency inspects licensed food services every month.

Below are details on health inspections performed at restaurants, schools, and other locations in Branch County between June 16 and 30.

There are three main categories of food service establishment violations:

Priority Items: These are the most critical violations and are most likely to cause foodborne illness if not corrected. Examples include issues with employee hygiene, food handling, and temperature control.

Priority Foundation Items: Violations that could lead to a priority violation if not addressed. Examples include a lack of necessary supplies or equipment.

Core Items: These relate to general sanitation, equipment, and facility maintenance.

Reports of June 15 and 30

Zheng’s Super Grand Buffet, 740 E Chicago St., Coldwater, June 16

Priority: The vanilla and chocolate ice cream bins on top of the machine were found to be at 61°F and 59°F. Cold holding of potentially hazardous foods shall be 41F or less. Corrected During Inspection

Priority: The backflow preventer assembly is leaking, and the bucket placed underneath the leak is full to the top. Proper installation of an air gap is required to route the water to a floor drain. Out of Compliance

Hope Church, 200 N Fremont St., Coldwater, June 20

No violations found

Jeanne’s Diner, 14 W Chicago St., Coldwater, June 23

Core: During the inspection, the walk-in cooler door seal was found damaged. All seals must be intact, and doors must be closing tightly. Out of Compliance

Core: During the inspection, the area around the fryer/grill and in the basement around the soda bag rack were found soiled with grease and debris. Nonfood-contact surfaces must be cleaned as often as necessary to prevent the accumulation of grease and debris. Out of Compliance

Side Street Beer Bar, 33 N. Hanchett St., Coldwater, June 23

No violations found

American Legion Rec Club, 104 E. Chicago St., Quincy, June 23

Priority Foundation: This facility did not provide chlorine and Quat test strips for testing sanitizer. Test strips shall be readily available to accurately measure the concentration of the sanitizer being used. Out of Compliance

American Legion Post #52, 84 W. Chicago St., Coldwater, June 23
