The retail store, owned by Alona Ausdemore, closed its doors on East Lake Street in September because it had outgrown the location. Ausdemore wanted to double her space to meet growing demand.

PECADO celebrated its soft opening at its new location at 200 Howard St. on Friday, May 1.

Perhaps the biggest change in PECADO’s inventory at the new location is the addition of European-designed lingerie of various styles, Ausdemore said.

“There’s a real need for quality women’s (apparel and lingerie) for customers in this part of Northern Michigan,” Ausdemore said, indicating that the only other options for area residents are big-box retailers and online stores. “The problem with online-only purchases is that you don’t know how it might fit without trying it on.”

Customers can purchase an array of women’s clothing, accessories and shoes at PECADO. High heel shoes in particular have become one of Ausdemore’s biggest sellers. The retailer primarily carries clothing items and shoes from European designers.

We’ve become like a boutique department store here,” Ausdemore said. “We focus on European brands that aren’t as widely known by customers, and you can’t purchase anywhere around here. These are products (generally) not available in the U.S.”

Ausdemore stored leftover inventory from the old Lake Street location over the winter but sold much of that inventory before the September closure. She has restocked the inventory in her larger space with completely new items.

PECADO continued to sell online over the last several months, and online sales are available by visiting the retailer’s website. Customers can try on items before purchasing and special orders are possible. An added feature for customers is that any clothing item purchased at PECADO can also be altered onsite.

“We also can custom-make some types of garments,” Ausdemore said.

Some of the retailer’s employees are experienced stylists who can assist customers with styling tips, Ausdemore added, providing a unique shopping experience.
