ADRIAN – When you are the No. 2 ranked team in the state, no matter the division, you undoubtedly have a big ol’ bull’s-eye on your back, meaning teams are going to bring it their all every time you hit the field.
For the Hudson Tigers that is a familiar sight, as teams across Lenawee County have a big red circle around their date with one of the top teams in the land. In Week 5, the Adrian Madison Trojans took their turn at the Tigers.
Adrian Madison came out on fire early, scoring on their first drive to take the early lead, only to see Hudson buckle down and score 56 unanswered points to remain unbeaten with the 56-7 win.
What Happened?
Things started fast for Adrian Madison, and it all started with superstar quarterback Brian Dopp and the Trojans’ passing game. Dopp went deep on the first drive, finding a wide-open Cam Barber after a beautiful route for the 35-yard touchdown pass. Nathan Mullins kicked the extra point, making it 7-0.
It was all Hudson after that, as the Tiger machine began to roll, chewing up chunks of turf with a dominant ground game led by sophomore Beckett Campbell and senior Grayson Bills. The Tigers out gained Adrian Madison 442-22 on the ground and 492-140 overall.
Campbell scored four touchdowns in the victory, including the first two of the night for the Tigers on runs of 9 yards and 13 yards.
The second quarter saw Hudson hit on a pair of big plays, starting with returning all-state running back Bills, who broke a run off of the left side for a 44-yard touchdown. That score was followed up by a score through the air as senior signal caller Colt Perry found teammate Kenny Sledge for a 25-yard touchdown pitch and catch, pushing the Tigers’ lead to 32-7 at the half.
The opening of the third quarter saw Campbell find the end zone from 14 yards out, extending the lead to 40-7.
Next up was Devon Brigman, the tailback responsible for all of Hudson’s 2-point conversions. He broke free of the Adrian Madison defense for an 80-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 48-7.
Hudson finished off their scoring in the fourth quarter with Campbell’s fourth touchdown, scoring from 49 yards out.
