Shasta County Clerk/Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis parked his car adorned in campaign materials near a polling place on Election Day, raising concerns of electioneering.
The light blue Jaguar was parked in downtown Redding in the former US Bank parking lot across from the Market Street elections office on the evening of Tuesday, June 2. It had two decals attached on either side which read “Clint Curtis for Shasta County Clerk.” American flags were also attached to each of the rear windows.
The California Code of Regulations states that electioneering is prohibited “… within 100 feet of the entrance of a polling place, curbside voting, or ballot drop box … “
In an interview with the Record Searchlight, Curtis confirmed that the car is his.
He also said that he measured the distance from his car to the office and it is over 100 feet.
He said the former bank parking lot has become free parking for elections staff following the closure of the US Bank on Pine Street, and said that is where he always parks.
The matter was brought to the newspaper’s attention by a concerned citizen outside the elections office, who said the location of Curtis’ car, if close enough to the office, could be considered electioneering.
Curtis is running for county clerk in the current election against former interim County Clerk Joanna Francescut, whom he fired two weeks after a majority on the Board of Supervisors hired him to replace Tom Toller.
He was appointed to the position in April 2025 in a 3-2 vote by the board of supervisors, who chose Curtis for the role over Francescut.
