HUDSON — Teaching has never been just a job for Hudson Area School’s Brandi Clark. It’s a calling shaped by the compassion of educators who once supported her and fueled by the joy she sees on her students’ faces.
Clark, a fifth-grade teacher of language and science at Hudson Middle/Junior/Senior High School, is The Daily Telegram’s Amazing Teacher for February. Clark recently entered her thirteenth year in education and her fourth year in Hudson, and said the recognition came as a surprise.
“When I found out I was nominated, I was shocked and excited,” she said. “To be nominated means so much. It reiterates how hard I work, and that what I do doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Clark began her teaching career in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving a high‑needs community where she worked to foster a love of learning in her students. That early experience shaped much of her educational philosophy, one that focuses not only on academic achievement but on creating a classroom culture that feels safe, engaging and welcoming.
Her responsibilities at Hudson extend far beyond teaching reading, writing and science concepts. Clark strives to build a community where students look forward to coming to school.
She credits two influential educators from her own childhood for inspiring her career: her first‑grade teacher, Mrs. Whiteton, and her high school math teacher, Mrs. Hartley. When she faced health challenges as a student, both teachers helped Clark stay on track.
“I knew then that I wanted to help children in the same capacity,” Clark said.
Today, she finds daily motivation in the excitement and curiosity of her students.
“Seeing my students having fun while learning and seeing their eyes light up when they grasp a concept — that inspires me,” she said. “Getting to know each individual personality and watching them grow into the young people they’ll become makes my heart happy.”
