Everyone knew Jaeli Jones could score and rebound.
She has been among the Monroe County Region’s best in those categories since she first appeared as a freshman for Summerfield’s girls basketball team.

But that wasn’t enough in her senior season.
She added to her repertoire, becoming the Region’s best passer.
Jones averaged 5.2 assists per game to lead the Region. No one else averaged more than 3.7.
“When teams are pressing up on Jaeli, she becomes more of a guard,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moody said. “She passed the ball more this year. We talked about it a little bit. It was important for her to get her teammates involved more. We told her that if she does that, teams won’t be able to double-team her as much.”
Jones embraced the change.
“She took it to heart,” Moody said.
It will help her in the future.
“She’s going to Schoolcraft,” Moody said. “She had a bunch of other really good offers, but the Schoolcraft coach really liked her.
“She will be on the wing and handle the ball. The good thing about Jaeli is that she likes having the basketball in her hands. She’s not afraid to run the point at all.”
She also has no fear of playing inside.
Jones led the Region in rebounds per game at 11.8, with Flat Rock’s Lily Klein second at 9.7.
Jones’ 16.3 average ranked fourth in the Region behind Emily Bladen of Milan (20.2), Flat Rock’s Madleen Hussein (19.3) and Sophia Mator of Airport (17.0).
Hussein won a tight race for steals per game. She averaged 4.5 with Alivia LeBrun of Jefferson (4.3) and Summerfield’s Bridget Salenbien (4.1) close behind.
Emily Bladen of Milan had the best free-throw percentage at 77.6.
Mator was far and away the leader in 3-pointers with 63.
Ida freshman Ella Curry was tops in field-goal percentage at 54.9, and she also led in blocked shots at 44.
