Luna Pier could get fourth cannabis store

A fourth marijuana retail store could be coming to the city of Luna Pier.

According to a May 24 public notice in The Monroe News, the Luna Pier Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and review June 23 for a proposed zoning ordinance amendment.

The applicant, according to the public notice, requests to change the zoning of Pier Inn hotel, 4163 Super Eight Drive, currently zoned B-2, General Business, “to add or include this parcel to the MFO, Marijuana Facilities Overlay District.”

“The original pitch from the developers was to rebuild the Pier Inn and open a marijuana facility on the same property. There is some undeveloped space on the Pier Inn property. That all would be subject to a site plan submission and approval,” said Luna Pier Mayor James Gardner.

Zoning changes and site plans must be approved by the Planning Commission and City Council, Gardner said.

“We will listen to our residents, local businesses and other members of the public before deciding. The developers submitted the zoning change request, and we of course will grant them the due process to which they are entitled by law,” Gardner said. “I can’t speculate on whether it will be approved or denied, but we will grant them fair, due process and we will listen to our residents. Their views are very important to us and we look forward to hearing from them.”

Luna Pier has two retail marijuana businesses with a third expected to open this summer.

“We currently have two marijuana facilities open in Luna Pier, Green Labs and High Profile, and another one, Bowz, nearing completion, slated to open mid-summer 2026. If the expansion of our overlay is approved, it would likely lead to a fourth facility,” Gardner said.

Green Labs Provisions, 10701 Madison St., opened in 2021 as a medical marijuana dispensary. Today, it sells both medical and recreational marijuana.

High Profile, 10552 Evans Dr., had its grand opening on April 3, Gardner said.

Also in Monroe County, Monroe Charter Township has 18 marijuana businesses. The city of Petersburg has one.
