Fisher Catholic valedictorian Angelina Guevara got involved in school

LANCASTER − Fisher Catholic 2026 Outstanding Senior Angelina Guevara didn’t waste much time in school.

“I’ve been very involved in the school all these four years,” she said. “Whether it’s with clubs or sports or just with academics in general. I’m also valedictorian this year.”

Guevara played tennis and volleyball and was on the cheerleading team. She was also involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters and was a middle school tutor at St. Mary’s, along with being an Interact club member and other clubs.

She graduated with a 4.1 grade point average. Guevara said balance was key to doing well in the classroom.

“I like to have a balance of mainly prioritizing my academics, but also being able to balance my social life, my family life,” she said. “My relationship with God is very important, as well, to kind of deal with all that stress. But really prioritizing and dividing my tasks up. Good time management is very important for me to be able to accomplish that.”

Guevara said there are advantages in going to a small private school like Fisher Catholic instead of a large public school.

“You get to know everyone on a personal level pretty much,” she said. “Whereas if you go to a big high school, you probably don’t really know everyone’s names. So you definitely get to know people better. It’s also a very tight-knit community, so you can always find people to help you with whatever you are going through, especially your teachers.”

Guevara will attend Ohio State in the fall to major in chemical engineering.

“I know I wanted to do something in the STEM field because I’m really interested in science and math,” she said. “It’s something that I know I’ve always been good at and has really interested me. And I do really like to challenge myself in whatever I do. My parents are engineers, as well, so they always help me choose my career path.”

Guevara said it’s important for new students to have a community to support them when they struggle, and to prioritize tasks so they don’t get overwhelmed.

“And taking time for yourself,” she said. “Like when you’re not feeling well, when a lot of things are going on, it’s very important to detach your responsibilities for a second and make sure that you’re OK first before you involve yourself in so many things.”
