We haven’t seen fifth-round rookie offensive lineman Miles Frazier on the field yet at Detroit Lions training camp. The big guard/tackle from LSU has been on the PUP list.
Before Tuesday’s practice, Lions head coach Dan Campbell offered up some clarity on what is ailing Frazier and when he might be expected to begin playing for Detroit.
“Knee,” Campbell answered when asked about Frazier’s absence.
As for when Frazier can get into the lineup, Campbell put the date beyond the roster cutdowns in late August.
“Let’s call it September, October. Let’s say something like that,” Campbell stated as the timeline for Frazier. That would mean starting the season out of the reserve offensive line mix.
Frazier was expected to compete for a role as a reserve at both guard and tackle as a rookie. The inability to show what he can do during training camp dampens the chances that the versatile 23-year-old can make a meaningful contribution right away. It’s also a boost for the stock of players like Kayode Awosika, Kingsley Eguakun, Colby Sorsdal and Trystan Colon, who are also competing for the same reserve roster spots.
