A handful of community organizations will officially receive support from Laketown Township in 2025 after funding approval was issued by trustees June 11.
Earlier this year, the Laketown Township Board earmarked funds for contracted services in the municipality’s Fiscal Year 2025-26 Budget to support local organizations, but the money was subject to presentations about how the funding would be used.
Allocations approved June 11 ranged from $500 to $4,500. They included:
All funding was approved unanimously, though a pair of organizations were given slightly less than requested. Evergreen Commons asked for $5,000, but Supervisor and Interim Manager Steven Ringelberg said Laketown provided $4,000 in 2024-25. Ringelberg motioned to authorize an amount between those numbers, at $4,500.
Reach for Recovery asked for $2,000, though it received $1,000 in 2024-45. Ringelberg suggested $1,750, which was approved. Treasurer Jim Johnson motioned to amend the figure to $1,500, but his motion did not receive support. He voted in favor of the $1,750 allocation.
The board previously approved funding for two other organizations in May, including $1,775 to the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council for fireworks on Independence Day and $1,725 to the Allegan County Legal Assistance Center, which helps residents with civil court proceedings like divorce, custody, landlord-tenant disputes and more.
The total approved for local groups is now $15,250.
Two additional organizations that requested funding have yet to provide a written or verbal presentation.
