Hops on Monroe is back Thursday for the summer

COLDWATER, MI — The city’s summer street party celebrates its seventh year starting this Thursday night, June 25.

Hops on Monroe runs every Thursday through Sept. 3, from 5 to 9 p.m.on South Monroe Street.

This community event attracts both locals and visitors with food trucks, craft beer, live music, and outdoor games.

Hops is a family-friendly, free event, partially sponsored by local businesses.

This week’s food trucks include Small Town Girl and Sweets on the Street.

Scotty Butters will provide this week’s entertainment.

Pigeon Hill Brewery from Muskegon is this week’s featured Michigan craft beer.

Bowser Family Farm will offer fresh flower bouquets on the street.

Courtney Dirschell of Second Story Marketing, event coordinator, said, “We will also sell dog bandanas in addition to t-shirts and stickers, with all proceeds benefiting Downtown Coldwater/Main Street.”

Hops kicks off the summer weekends early, drawing lake visitors to town.

Dirschell added, “Many new businesses and building owners have chosen downtown after seeing the event’s success.”

Partial sidewalk closure on S. Monroe Street

Due to potential falling debris from 25 W. Chicago St., the east sidewalk of S. Monroe Street next to the building is closed with barricades and fencing.

The city encourages everyone to use caution when traveling in this area.

City attorney Amanda O’Boyle told the city council Monday. June 22, she is in discussions with the owner, but no action has been taken yet.

“We are exploring options to ensure the safety of residents, especially during festivals, Hops on Monroe, and other downtown events,” O’Boyle said.

She said the current barricades are temporary, and the city may add netting or more permanent protections.
