Here's where to find one of Tulip Time's most unique souvenirs

HOLLAND — Local artist Tracey Venema was scrolling on TikTok when she saw an art print vending machine from a graphic designer in New York City. That inspiration spawned two machines, one in Saugatuck and one in Holland, packed full of her original artwork.

“I was looking for more creative ways to (distribute) my artwork,” Venema told The Sentinel.

Her original vending machine is located at Marie’s Green Apothecary in Saugatuck, but as Tulip Time approached, Venema decided to expand the concept to Holland.

“I (wanted) to have something for my hometown and I love Tulip Time,” she said. “Every year, I do a ton of TikToks.”

The prints showcase tulips among iconic Holland landmarks, including Big Red and De Zwaan Windmill — in addition to popular views like the Tulip Lanes, Centennial Park and Window on the Waterfront.

“I like to paint things that bring me joy,” Venema said. “I love going to the beach and seeing Big Red. I love getting fresh flowers. … Some of the (pictured) locations have been my favorite during Tulip Time.”

Venema said the festival is about beauty and joy; a time when the community is more open to chatting with strangers.

“I just hope people enjoy the simpler things in life, like art,” Venema said. “I hope it encourages or inspires people to explore getting into artwork themselves.”

The vending machine charges $1 in quarters and is located at Blu Veranda at 12 E. Eighth St.

“It’s really approachable for children,” Venema said. “It can feel expensive to get a souvenir and I hope it’s something they can have fun with.”
