LANSING — There’s a chance of thunderstorms in central lower Michigan on Saturday, July 19, and some of them could be severe, forecasters said.
A National Weather Service graphic published on Friday, July 18, showed the southern half of the lower peninsula as having a slight risk of severe weather between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday.
Damaging winds are the biggest threat, and rain could be locally heavy, forecasters said.
Thunderstorms that develop in the morning are unlikely to be severe, but it’s possible storms could intensify in the afternoon south of a line from Muskegon to Mt. Pleasant, the weather service said.
Highs were expected to be in the mid-80s on Saturday in the Lansing area, with a 70% chance of rain. Sunday was expected to be sunny, with highs of around 80 degrees.
High temperatures could climb to around 90 degrees by midweek, with a chance of more rain or thunderstorms.
Despite a chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, the weather service was forecasting good swimming conditions this weekend along the Lake Michigan shore. Waves of a foot or less were expected on Friday, July 18, with waves of one to two feet on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20.
