A rarely produced, two-character musical exploring family, loss and healing will be staged this weekend at The Sauk Theatre in Jonesville.
“John & Jen,” a contemporary musical, follows Jen and her familial relationship with two men named John — her younger brother, who’s killed while serving in the Vietnam War, and her son, who struggles to find his place in the world.
Trinity Bird, executive director of The Sauk, said the theater has long hoped to produce the show.
“It’s a beautiful piece … I hope our audience takes a chance on a show (they’ve) probably never heard of before,” she wrote.
The production stars Meghan Barnes as Jen and Bradley Jayne as both versions of John. The musical is directed by Bruce Crews.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. April 23-24 and 3 p.m. April 25-26 at 240 E. Chicago St.
The cost is pay-what-you-can April 23, while all remaining performance tickets are $12. For more information, visit thesauk.org.
