HARBOR SPRINGS — The City of Harbor Springs is accepting applications for someone to fill a seat on city council following Michael Behrmann’s resignation.
Behrmann resigned because he and his wife are moving to the Upper Peninsula to be closer to family. His resignation was effective following the conclusion of the council’s meeting on Monday, June 2.
Behrmann’s term expires on Nov. 9, 2025, meaning there are seven regular meetings left in his term.
Behrmann was elected to council in the November 2023 election, serving as a voter during Harbor Springs’ major zoning reform, which is still ongoing.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the city’s residents for their support, to the remarkable city staff and administration for their outstanding work, and to my esteemed colleagues on the city council with whom I’ve had the privilege of serving with since November 2023,” Behrmann said during Monday’s meeting. “I wish the city and community continued success, and as many people have expressed to me — including me — Harbor Springs is a very special place and I will miss it dearly.”
Behrmann first announced his plans to move during the April 21 council meeting.
Prior to his bid for city council, Behrmann served as the superintendent of Harbor Springs Public Schools from 2018-2022, capping off the end of a 35-year career in education.
People interested in applying can do so by emailing an application to city manager Victor Sinadinoski at citymgr@cityofharborsprings.com, or bringing an application to city hall.
Applications can be found online at cityofharborsprings.com/government/boards-and-commissions.
To be eligible to fill the seat, you must be a qualified elector, must have been a resident for at least two years prior to your appointment and cannot be in default to the city.
Applications are due by end of day on Thursday, June 26. Questions can be directed to Sinadinoski at (231) 526-2104.
