South, Bedford North Lawrence headed to IHSAA Unified state track and field meet

Bloomington South will make a third-straight appearance at the IHSAA Unified State Track Meet on Saturday morning, June 7, while Bedford North Lawrence will be there for the sixth time, tied for second most in the state.

The Panthers pulled out their first ever regional title last week, scoring 105 points to top Avon (91), BNL (90) and Whiteland (88), who all earned berths to the state finals. Bloomington North, which won its first sectional title in program history on May 24, just missed by placing fifth with 86.

The event consists of several flights each in the 100, 400, long jump and shot put for boys and girls and separate boys and girls races in the 400 relay.

Section winners in the 100 included Ernesto Diaz Rosa of North and Ellie Matheny of BNL; in the 400, Rex Evans of BNL and Maichael Mmadi of South; in the long jump, Jaida Mason of South, Iris Jones and Maren Winkle of North and Patric Mason of BNL and in shot put, winners were Vivian Moellers of North and Isabelle Taylor and Christian Lawalin of South.

The Stars won both relay races.

The state finals will take place at North Central High School in Indianapolis at 11 a.m. Tickets are $15 and available at ihsaa.eventlink.com and a pay-per-view livestream (also $15) is available at ihsaatv.org.
