Here’s everything that happened on Wednesday’s episode of “Survivor 50,” titled “Everyone Will Be Shooketh!” as nine contestants became seven.
Warning, spoilers ahead:
What was the fallout from Tribal?
The castaways were pretty stoked they were now playing for $2 million, after Mr. Beast’s involvement and a lucky coin flip by Rick Devens doubled the show’s jackpot on last week’s episode. Well, most of them were, at least. “I thought it was extremely poor taste,” said Joe, referring to Devens’ style of game play, his gloating, and just his general Devensness. “I do not play that way. I just think it’s disgusting.” Cirie, meanwhile, found Joe’s haterism toward Devens tiring. “Why you moping?” she questioned of Joe’s behavior. “I’ve had it up to here with babysitting Joe.” Devens, for his part, was pretty proud of his gameplay, and he celebrated with Aubry, who likened her and Devens to “two little devious cockroaches who won’t go away from the edge of extinction.” But all the activity at Tribal Council interrupted Jonathan’s game plans, big jackpot or not. “Tribal went absolutely terrible,” he complained, saying his plan to vote out Devens was “completely flipped upside down.” He figured the shenanigans only made his path toward the money harder to navigate. “I do believe I’m going to have a really hard uphill battle to get to that $2 million,” he said.
How was Ozzy sleeping at night?
Not well! Ozzy, who is still in possession of a Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol, said he had a nightmare that he went home without playing it. He said he had every intention of finally playing it so that would not happen, and he wouldn’t go home with that Eilish Idol burning a hole in his pocket. “I don’t want to have a Billie Eilish Boomerang souvenir,” he said.
Who won immunity, and what else was at stake?
Contestants were tasked with balancing on a platform in the water — a classic “Survivor” challenge — and at stake was not only immunity at Tribal Council, but also an advantage that would impact a twist that would play out at Tribal Council. After the challenge, Tiffany was declared the winner… or was she? After a judge’s review, it turned out Tiffany made a move that left her disqualified, and Jonathan was crowned champion, granting him immunity, and a vote in both of the night’s Tribal Councils.
Wait, both Tribal Councils?
Yes, you read that right. The remaining contestants were split into two groups — Tiff, Emily, Cirie, and Devens on one side, and Joe, Ozzy, Rizo and Aubry on the other — and because of his advantage, Jonathan was allowed to cast a vote in both Tribal Councils, and he was able to freely move between the two tribes leading up to the votes.
Who was targeted?
First and foremost, Devens, thanks to what Jonathan deemed his “idol garbage,” and his other attention-grabbing offenses. But with nothing left to lose, Emily made a complicated plan with Devens to double cross Jonathan and turn the vote on Cirie. In the other tribe, Ozzy, Joe and Rizo figured Aubry was the easiest to cast off, since she’s been floating near the bottom since the merge. But Aubry wasn’t going down without a fight, and she struck up a last minute plan to try to convince the boys to go after Ozzy instead, putting in action her plan to, her words, “burn this whole game down.”
Who was voted out?
From the Tiff, Emily, Cirie, and Devens side, Emily was sent home, after Devens used his Mr. Beast immunity idol on himself, nullifying two votes cast against him, and sending the vote (a two-two tie between Emily and Cirie) to a re-vote. Since Cirie had a double vote, she cast them both against Emily, and Emily was sent packing in a 4-2 vote.
Who else was voted out?
From the Joe, Ozzy, Rizo and Aubry side, Ozzy was voted off the island, after not listening to himself and going home with the Billie Eilish idol burning a gigantic hole in his pocket. Biggest blunder of “Survivor 50” so far, easily.
