Michigan football predicted to land top-flight 2027 wide receiver

Michigan football hadn’t been known in the past decade for its wide receiver play, even when it had some top-flight recruits. Five-star Donovan Peoples-Jones and four-stars Nico Collins and Tarik Black had about as much recruiting cache as one could have, but their production in Ann Arbor wasn’t similar to other passing game powerhouses. However, with Andrew Marsh potentially emerging and a new coaching staff, the maize and blue are looking good for one of the nation’s best pass catchers.

The Wolverines have long been linked to Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell, even before Kyle Whittingham took the job in Ann Arbor. But it appears that Michigan is inching closer to closing the deal, as five different insiders predicted on Rivals that Burrell would end up wearing a winged helmet

It started with vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong putting in a prediction on Tuesday. He was followed by Allen Trieu, national recruiting analyst Greg Smith, Mike Singer, and Maize & Blue Review’s Josh Henschke. Burrell is rated a four-star across the board with ESPN having the highest ranking for him at No. 53. Rivals has him at No. 83 overall.

Here is the scouting report from 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins:

-Steady and productive X projection that will outwork coverage for the football.-Enters senior season as Mount Carmel’s all-time leader in touchdown catches (142 receptions for 2,396 yards and 34 scores).-Tends to win with his route-running and overall spacing.-Makes difficult grabs on the sidelines as he attacks passes with focused hands.-Quick to get vertical once the ball is secured and will fight for extra yardage.-Can certainly find a top gear, but shouldn’t be classified as a burner and is the type of wideout that creates more issues for defenders with his size and IQ than his speed.-Already embraces the idea of blocking on the perimeter and will work for teammates.-Projects as a potential multi-year contributor with all-league upside at the Power Four level.

He’s listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds and has long been thought to be a Notre Dame lean. However, the Wolverines have been consistent in trying to lure him to Ann Arbor, and it appears that’s close to paying off.
