Maddie Jipping is an all-state talent, though she likely won’t be selected as an all-state volleyball player this season.
It wasn’t because she wasn’t good enough, but because she missed almost half the season with a knee injury.
But when she was healthy, she was a dominant player, most notably shown when she led Hamilton past rival Holland Christian – the conference and district champions – in five sets near the end of the season.
Her career has been full of moments like that, but unfortunately, injuries have kept that from being consistent.
Jipping’s dominance hasn’t gone unnoticed. Her prowess on the court both at Hamilton and in club volleyball landed her a spot at the NCAA Division I ranks.
This week, Jipping signed her national letter-of-intent to play at Oakland University. She had verbally committed last year.
“I don’t really look at it as Division I. I just look at it (as my school),” she said earlier this season. “Oakland is very competitive and that is what made me want to go there.”
Now healthy, Jipping will prepare to show that talent on a consistent basis for the Grizzlies.
