Detroit — Injuries continue to decimate the Tigers.
The team put infielder Gleyber Torres on the injured list Wednesday with a mild left oblique strain and recalled infielder Jace Jung.
Torres had been dealing with soreness in his left side and has been held out for three games. Torres did defensive drills Monday, some batting practice Tuesday, and was hopeful of returning Wednesday but wasn’t healthy enough to do so.
“Gleyber has been getting treatment and getting looked at,” manager AJ Hinch said. “It continues to be stagnant.
“He’s been doing some work. He’s been throwing, running a little bit, and swinging the bat, albeit not at full speed. It’s hard. Nothing happened. We kept waiting and he was hopeful. This was the targeted day (for his return), but it’s been a full series and he hasn’t been available to us.”
Hinch added the team is awaiting any sort of notification from the league regarding pitcher Framber Valdez, who hit Boston’s Trevor Story in the back after allowing two home runs in Tuesday’s game.
Hinch said pitcher Tarik Skubal was scheduled to have surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow Wednesday but there was no update.
