The NCAA Tournament can bring you pure joy and terrible agony. For one former Michigan State player, it was the latter on Tuesday night.
Former Michigan State guard Tre Holloman’s college career came to an end when his NC State Wolfpack fell in a First Four NCAA Tournament game against Texas.
With Holloman defending, Texas’ Tramon Mark nailed a fadeaway jumper from just inside the 3-point line to give the Longhorns a 68-66 lead with about one second left in the game. They ended up being the final points as Texas moved into the first round on Thursday and sent Holloman and the Wolfpack home.
You can see the game-winning play by Mark in the social media post below:
Holloman played his first three seasons with the Spartans and appeared destined for a strong senior year at Michigan State to wrap up his college career. But as you should know by now, he elected to hit the transfer portal and landed at NC State for his final year of college eligibility.
Holloman was a regular starter for the Wolfpack this season, averaging just under 10 points and 2 assists per game. He finished Tuesday night’s loss against Texas with 8 points and 4 assists.
Holloman was one of three former Spartans that transferred from Michigan State last year that are in the NCAA Tournament. Xavier Booker of UCLA and Gehrig Normand of Santa Clara will start their NCAA Tournament runs on Friday.
