Detroit Tigers game today vs Washington Nationals rained out, doubleheader Wednesday

WASHINGTON D.C. – Storms blew through Nationals Park Tuesday afternoon and despite a break in the weather, Major League Baseball cancelled the Detroit Tigers’ game because radar showed more rain coming.

The Tigers and the Washington Nationals will play a doubleheader Wednesday, July 2, to make up the game. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m. and the second game follows at 6:45 p.m., the regularly scheduled time.

Left-handed reliever Tyler Holton is expected to take the mound for the Tigers in Game 1 to start as the opener, while right-hander Jack Flaherty is scheduled for a traditional start in Game 2.

The Tigers (52-32) arrived in D.C. on Sunday, June 29, and had the day off Monday. They’ve won five of their last seven after a three-game losing streak, only their third of the season – they opened their seasons with three straight losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they lost three in a row to Cleveland in late May.

Washington, meanwhile, is coming off a nine-game west coast trip. The Nationals went 5-5 over their last 10 games, an improvement considering they’d lost 11 in a row before that.

Weather permitting, the Tigers and Nationals will wrap up their three-game series Thursday night, July 3.
