Another Michigander has been taken in the NHL draft.
Former Novi Detroit Catholic Central standout and Brighton native Brooks Rogowski has been selected at No. 33 overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round of the 2026 NHL Draft on Saturday, June 27.
Rogowski, 18, is considered one of the top forward prospects entering the draft and currently plays for the OHL’s Oshawa Generals.
Rogowski was part of a Shamrocks team that won the MHSAA Division 1 title in 2023-24, the fifth of seven consecutive titles for Catholic Central (2019-26, with no winner in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). He has committed to play for Michigan State starting in the 2027-28 season.
Rogowski isn’t the first Detroit-area native to have been selected in this year’s draft, with Chesterfield’s Chase Reid selected at No. 7 in the draft by the Seattle Kraken. Both Reid and Rogowski are committed to play for the Spartans, though Rogowski will have to wait a year while Reid begins his college career in the 2026-27 season.
